(For Arcane Fans)

Below is our video: "League of Legends for Arcane Fans". It is a light-hearted guide to League of Legends' culture and experience aimed at both fans only familiar with Arcane and those already immersed in the game.

1. Design Rationale

The goal for this artefact production was to produce a video that would be entertaining for both newcomers and those experienced in League of Legends. I aimed to do this by exploring perceptions of League of Legends from fans and critics and the etiquette of playing League of Legends.

2. Documentation

The production of the video was iterative with each scene worked on multiple times before moving on to the next. I believe this approach helped each part to be interesting and unique while perhaps reducing the efficiency and cohesion of the whole artefact.

The iterative approach is best exemplified by my scripting process.

My preferred software for writing a script was notepad. It allowed me to make quick changes and lacked many features that may have been a distraction for me. The script was used sometimes loosely when recording voice over, as I gave myself freedom to improvise with a large number of takes.

I used audacity to record audio for voiceovers and for noise reduction. I then imported the audio files into Premiere Pro to be edited.

The visuals were mainly done using Premiere Pro, sometimes the ideas for visuals were decided in the script, otherwise I would find suitable B-roll online. The iterative process continued here with each scene being edited multiple times until a suitable result was reached. The most commonly used edits were scaling and positioning of elements, which was often used to replicate the controls that came with conventional filming, such as lens choice, framing and proximity. By simulating these changes I was able to add visual interest to otherwise monotonous footage.

To record footage of gameplay and of premiere pro, I used OBS to record a specific application and sound for that application. This led to some issues with recording gameplay, as League of Legends uses a sperate application for the client and game.
